9th August 2014 Free Hugs Day in Memoriam of Carla Clarkson. Organised by friends and family of Carla, to celebrate a life that was cut short all too soon. Friends, family and members of the public came to see busking performances of music and dance. The video features some very energetic young people performing a contemporary dance piece. The steps outside St Luke’s provide a natural amphitheatre, performances in the space really bring the area to life, making a change from the anti-social activities that take place when there is a cultural vacuum. On the right of the screen you can see an exhibition of paintings by the “Railings Union” a group of artists who regularly hung works of art on the railings for members of the public to browse. The original Railings Union was organised by Liverpool artists outside the Bluecoat Chambers in from the 1960s up until the 90s when it was “put a stop to”. I would like to see more cultural activities taking place in this spot, what do you think? | |
