Memorial Service for Lizzie Ward.
Lizzie was a lovely woman, who had led a very difficult life. I first met her in 2008, she could often be seen sitting outside St Luke's, she asked me if she could help out in any way as she was bored. She took part in our "Hollywood Homeless" photography project in 2009 and 2010 and was a tremendous help throughout the project. She said that the project really helped her to get her life back on track and she seemed to spend less time hanging around the church, although it was always nice to see her and have a chat.
But in 2015, filled with despair, she took her own life. Her family held a funeral, but many of her friends, including her ex boyfriend were not welcome to the service as it was thought that they would be too disruptive to the proceedings. We held a memorial service for her at the bombed out church. Our very own minister Rev Ruth stock conducted the service which included, hymns, a reading, an Agape (like a holy communion), then we passed the mic amongst the congregation to say a few words about Lizzie. Our Jake played the organ, which made it very churchy! Lizzie family came to the service too, and there was a confrontation, but it was resolved quite quickly. All of this took place under the giant see through marquee, which was still in place after the Liverpool Organic Beer Festival, held a few days earlier. We were glad of the marquee as there was a torrential downpour. Rest in peace Lizzie Ward.
